10About the Serie A
The Campeonato Brasileiro Série A — better known as the Brasileirão — is the top tier of Brazilian club football and one of the most competitive leagues in South America. Twenty clubs play a double round-robin over 38 rounds, meeting every opponent home and away, with three points for a win deciding the title, continental qualification spots, and the four relegation places to Série B. Unlike most European leagues, the Brasileirão is played within a single calendar year: the season kicks off in the first months of the year and runs through early December.
Match scheduling takes some planning. Rounds are spread across the week, with fixtures on Saturdays and Sundays plus regular midweek dates, and most games kick off in the late afternoon or evening, Brasília time. Brazil no longer observes daylight saving, so kickoff times on the Brazilian side stay steady all year — but a 9:30 pm start in São Paulo can still land at an awkward hour abroad. A countdown in your local time takes the guesswork out: check the timer and budget roughly two hours per match, halftime included.
