About MatchCountdown
MatchCountdown answers one question: when does the next match start, in my time?
Why MatchCountdown exists
A kickoff time only means something once you know whose clock it's on. Fixtures get published in venue-local time, broadcaster time, or a bare hour with no zone stated at all — and daylight saving shifts on different dates in different countries, so the usual gap between two cities is quietly wrong for a few weeks every year. Get any of that wrong and "20:00" turns into missing the first goal.
MatchCountdown exists to remove that step entirely. Every event is stored once, in UTC, and converted on your own device — so a countdown reading "3 hours 12 minutes" means exactly that, wherever you are, without you doing the arithmetic or trusting whichever timezone happened to be printed on a schedule.
What MatchCountdown does
Every sports event has an official UTC start time. MatchCountdown converts that into your local time and shows an exact countdown — down to the second. No need to mentally calculate time zones or wonder if the time you see online is in your timezone or the venue's timezone.
We track event schedules for the sports and leagues that matter most, update them automatically, and flag events where the start time is not yet officially confirmed.
Whether you're in London watching a Premier League match, in Tokyo following the NBA, or in São Paulo tracking Formula 1, MatchCountdown shows you the exact local time for every event — no conversion needed.
When to use MatchCountdown
MatchCountdown is most useful when:
- You follow a team or league based in a different time zone — a Saturday 3pm kickoff in England lands at a very different hour in Tokyo or São Paulo.
- A tournament spans several time zones at once, like a World Cup played across multiple host countries, where the same "19:00 kickoff" label means something different depending on the stadium.
- You want a reminder before kickoff without checking back manually or doing the conversion yourself every week.
- You're adding a match to your own calendar and want the time to stay correct even if you're travelling when it airs.
Outside of those moments — a match on your own local channel at a normal local hour — a countdown adds little. It's built for the cases where a plain fixture list would get someone's evening wrong.

How it works
MatchCountdown collects official fixture data from league APIs and authoritative sports data providers. Each event is stored with its UTC kickoff time, venue, and competition details. When you visit an event page, the countdown automatically converts to your local timezone using your browser's settings — no account or login required.
We update schedules multiple times per day to reflect postponements, rescheduling, and newly announced fixtures. Events are labelled with a confidence level so you always know how reliable the listed time is. For the full picture — providers, refresh cadence, and how daylight saving is handled — see Data & Accuracy.
About event time confidence
Not all scheduled times are equally reliable. Broadcast times, fixture rescheduling, and travel formats mean some event times are set months in advance without official confirmation.
We label each event's time confidence level — confirmed, awaiting confirmation, or unconfirmed — so you know when to double-check before committing to a plan.
Add events to your calendar
Every event page includes an "Add to Calendar" button that works with Google Calendar, Apple Calendar, and Outlook. The calendar entry is created in your local time so you never miss a kickoff.
Which features are free
The website and the Android app are entirely free, with no account and no paywalled feature — every countdown, every timezone conversion, favourites, calendar subscriptions, and match reminders 15 minutes before kickoff.
The iOS app is free the same way, plus one optional, one-time purchase (MatchCountdown Pro — not a subscription) that unlocks four specific things: no ads, choosing a reminder's lead time (1 hour, 3 hours or 1 day before kickoff instead of the fixed 15 minutes), pointing the home-screen widget at one team, league or sport instead of whatever kicks off soonest, and automatic reminders for every match your followed teams play, without setting each one by hand.
Origins & Mission
