How a Champions League matchday works
Since the 2024/25 season the UEFA Champions League has opened with a single league phase instead of groups. Thirty-six clubs play eight matches each against eight different opponents, four at home and four away, and all of them share one table. The top eight go straight through to the round of 16, the teams finishing 9th to 24th play a two-legged knockout play-off for the remaining places, and the bottom twelve are out.
A league-phase matchday is spread over consecutive midweek evenings, with kickoffs at 18:45 and 21:00 Central European Time. In Türkiye those are 19:45 and 22:00 while Europe is on summer time, and 20:45 and 23:00 after the clocks go back at the end of October. Every fixture on this page is shown in your own time zone, alongside the live league table.
Matchday 2, on Tuesday 13 and Wednesday 14 October, brings both Turkish clubs into action. Galatasaray, beaten 3–1 by Sporting CP in Lisbon on the opening night, host Barcelona in Istanbul on the Tuesday; Fenerbahçe, held 1–1 at home by Roma in September, travel to Aston Villa on the Wednesday. Both kick off at 21:00 CET. The same two nights also bring Atlético de Madrid against Manchester United, Manchester City against Paris Saint-Germain and Roma against Real Madrid.
