About the Liga MX

Liga MX is Mexico's top-flight football league and one of the most watched competitions in the Americas. Its calendar is split into two independent tournaments each year: the Apertura, which typically runs from July to December, and the Clausura, played from January into May. Eighteen clubs each contest a 17-match regular phase, after which the leading sides advance to the Liguilla, a knockout playoff round decided over two-legged ties. That structure means two champions are crowned per calendar year, and two separate title races to keep track of.

Most rounds are spread from Friday night through Sunday, with Saturday evening carrying the heaviest slate, and late kick-offs in Mexican local time are the norm. For viewers in the United States that usually means prime-time or late-night starts, while fans in Europe face early-morning hours. Budget roughly two hours per match, and more for two-legged Liguilla ties you want to follow in full. A countdown set to your own time zone takes the guesswork out of Friday-night openers and late Sunday closers alike.
