The busiest and the quietest days

Football is almost four matches in five
Football accounts for 45,793 of the 58,747 matches, 78%, followed by basketball (6,031), tennis (3,359) and volleyball (2,794). Ice hockey, MMA, American football, cricket and Formula 1 make up the rest. Because football dominates the count, its weekend afternoons set the shape of the whole week.
How we measured it
The data is MatchCountdown's own fixture database: every match with a completed status and a scheduled kick-off between 1 August and 31 October 2026, across all the sports and competitions it tracks, counted on 31 October. Times are scheduled kick-off times in UTC; a match that started late counts at its scheduled time. Every MatchCountdown page shows those kick-offs converted to your own time zone.
